If the shock absorber/coil spring assemblies need to be replaced, it may be more efficient to install new complete shock/coil assemblies. Before deciding, compare the cost of each option. Removing the battery and battery tray is necessary for working on the left side, while removing the air filter housing and cruise control servo mounting nuts may be required for the right side. Remove the upper mounting nuts for the shock absorber/coil spring assembly. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and remove the front wheels. Disconnect the clevis bracket-to-lower control arm bolt and detach the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm. Disconnect and separate the lower ball joint from the control arm. Disconnect the clevis bracket from the shock absorber and remove the spring/shock absorber from the wheel well. To replace the components, secure the shock/coil assembly in a bench vise and use a spring compressor to relieve force on the spring seat. Remove the damper shaft nut, mount, coil spring, and lower insulator. Reassemble the unit, ensuring the bottom of the spring seats against the recess in the bottom spring retainer plate. Install the damper shaft nut and release the spring compressor. Installation is the reverse of removal, tightening all fasteners and wheel lug nuts to the specified torque.
