Relieve the fuel system pressure. Remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the upper fuel pump module, then lift it up to gain access for siphoning the fuel out of the fuel tank. Note: The fuel tank filler neck has a one-way valve which prevents siphoning from the filler neck. Using a siphoning kit, siphon the fuel through the fuel pump module opening, into an approved gasoline container. On 2008 and later models, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jack­stands, then remove the rear driveshaft. If equipped, remove the optional tow hooks, disconnect the optional tow package electrical connector and remove the trailer hitch. If equipped, remove the optional fuel tank skidplate:Support the skid plate with a floor jackRemove the fuel tank skid plate mounting bolts.Carefully lower the skid plate from the chassis. Label and disconnect the fuel system lines attached to the fuel tank, and any retainers securing them to the chassis. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical ground-strap. Remove the fuel filler hose from the left side of the fuel tank (Remove the clamp that retains the fuel filler hose to the fuel tank; note the white mark on the hose that is aligned with the notches on the fuel tank filler neck). Support the fuel tank with a floor jack. Position a piece of wood between the jack head and the fuel tank to protect the tank. Remove the fuel tank retaining bolts. Remove the tank from the vehicle. Caution: Carefully lower the fuel tank several inches and disconnect the remaining electrical connector. Installation is the reverse of removal with the following additions:If the fuel tank is being replaced, remove the necessary components from the old fuel tank and install them on the new tank.Tighten the fuel tank retaining bolts to the torque listed in the specifications.Align the white-paint mark on the fuel fill hose with the notches on the fuel tank fitting and tighten the clamp securely.
