Stop the vehicle with both front wheels aligned correctly and the steering wheel in the original position. Unplug the battery's failing power wire while being grounded or using a remote link to ground. Free the airbag module under the steering wheel by taking out its two bolts, after lifting up the trim caps. Push down on small release tabs to free the electrical connections from the airbag module and clockspring. Keep the module on a clean surface, with its airbag side facing up in a secure and separate place. When your hands are on the steering wheel, keep it straight with you and let the bolt retainer turn a few times. Hold the steering wheel straight with hooked-legged tools, then pull it free from its shaft. When the puller has freed the steering wheel, take it and the bolt out, then make a note about where the steering wheel sits on the shaft. When the steering wheel is gone, fasten the clockspring right so it doesn't move. Put the clockspring in the right spot, keep the wheels facing forward, and put the switch for turn signals in its middle position. Follow these steps to recenter the clockspring: turn it clockwise until it stops, move it counterclockwise 2.5 full turns, right until you see the dowel pin on the 6:00 position with the wiring along the top part. Mount the wheel onto the shaft, line its wide sleeve up with the gap in the steering wheel ribs, and check that the clockspring fits on the back of the wheel. Put the right bolt back into the steering wheel and make it firm. Reattach clockspring wires and electrical plugs to airbag module, and lock the airbag module onto the steering wheel by tightening its screws. Complete the process by connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal, starting the car to check the airbag system works correctly through the red airbag indicator on your dashboard.
