2000 Chrysler Cirrus Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the intake manifolds in V6 engine on 2000 Chrysler Cirrus?
A: To have access on the upper intake manifold remove the negative battery cable from the ground stud on the left shock tower, and then, take out the air filter inlet duct from the throttle body. Remove and label all the hoses, wires, bracket, and emission connections that are connected to the intake manifold, also remove accelerator and cruise control cables that are connected to the throttle body if exist. In the next step, loose the bolts that hold the upper intake manifold to the support bracket and EGA tube. Tighten the upper intake manifold bolts in a star pattern until they can be tightened by hand and if they stuck hit it gently with a soft-faced hammer or pry it from the lower intake manifold being careful not to pry between the gasket sealing surfaces. For cleanliness, put clean rags into the lower intake manifold passages and remove all dirt of gasket around the intake manifolds using gasket scraper so that the aluminum surfaces are not damaged. Use precision straight edge with feeler gauge and inspect the mating surfaces for warpage, and if found to have gone over the limit; the intake manifold should be exchanged for a new part or the existing one should be refaced. To install the lower intake manifold, remove the rags and suck any contamination with a vacuum; the upper intake manifold must also be installed together with a new gasket and the bolts installed from the centre outwards in three steps. New gaskets have to be placed and the bolts used to fix the EGR tube have to be tightened. Over the lower intake manifold execute fuel pressure relief procedure, secondly remove upper intake manifold, and lastly the fuel rail and injector assembly. Unfasten the intake manifold nuts in the reverse direction of the sequence you used in tightening, until it can be done using only hand, then, remove the lower intake manifold, using a tap or pry while still avoiding the gasket sealing surfaces. Once again put clean rag in the cylinder head intake passages and then remove all the gasket material from the intake manifold and cylinder heads. Surfaces of the gasket should be checked for warpage and if some of the components are warped beyond the permissible limits, they will have to be either replaced or reground. For installation remove the rags from the cylinder head intake passages and install the lower intake manifold gasket with new one and tighten the nuts in three steps of torque mentioned above in sequence only. Replace the rail for fuel then the upper intake manifold gasket, then bolt down with new gasket the egr tube. The rest of the installation process is performed in the 'opposite' order to the removal process.
