2004 Jeep Liberty Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install a front crankshaft seal in 3.7L V6 engine on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: Delete the crankshaft pulley on the engine. Using a seal remover tool or an appropriately sized screwdriver ease out the seal from the cover to avoid damaging the seal bore as well as the crankshaft. One must not apply pressure that makes scratch, gouged, or distorted shape at the point where the seal experiences pressure because this will lead to oil leak. Scrape out the bore to remove any remaining seal material and rust or ANY OTHER FORM OF CORROSION, before placing the new seal in to the bore, ensuring that the side of the seal that contains the spring, is seated inside against the engine block. It is good to apply a small amount of oil on the circumference of the new seal, but should not be done heavily. Using seal driver or a large socket and hammer force the seal into the bore until it bottoms on the cover flange while making sure that the outside diameter of the socket matches the inside diameter of the seal. It is recommended to lubricate the seal lips with engine oil before bolt and reinstalling the crankshaft pulley The other process is the reversal of the above-stated procedure.
