The rear crankshaft Crankshaft Seal and retainer are an assembly. When installing a new seal assembly, do not separate the seal protector from the crankshaft Crankshaft Seal before installation onto the engine, as damage to the seal lip will occur if the seal protector is removed. Begin by removing the engine
Oil Pan. Lower the weight of the engine back onto the engine mounts. Next, remove the transmission. After that, remove the rear seal retaining bolts and then take off the seal retainer. Clean the crankshaft Crankshaft Seal and retainer surfaces. Mount special tool #8225 to the oil pan surface using the oil pan mounting bolts. Install the oil seal retainer over the end of the crankshaft and onto the engine block, firmly pressing the retainer into place to ensure it is seated against the special tool. Install the mounting bolt and tighten the bolts to the specified torque value. The remaining installation follows the reverse order of removal. Finally, refill the engine with oil.
