    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to install a Crankshaft Seal in a four-cylinder engine on Chrysler Cirrus? Posted by Customer
    A:
The one-piece rear Crankshaft Seal is pressed into a bore machined into the rear main bearing cap and engine block. Begin by removing the transaxle, modular clutch assembly (if equipped), and driveplate. It is important to ensure that the Crankshaft Seal is installed flush with the outer surface of the block. Pry out the old seal using a 3/16-inch flat blade screwdriver, taking care not to scratch or damage the crankshaft sealing surface or the seal bore in the engine block to prevent an oil leak. Clean the crankshaft and seal bore thoroughly, degreasing the areas with a rag soaked in lacquer thinner or acetone, and do not lubricate the lip or outer diameter of the new seal; it must be installed dry as it comes from the manufacturer. Position the new seal onto the crankshaft, ensuring that if marked, the words THIS SIDE OUT on the seal face outward, toward the rear of the engine. Using an appropriate size driver and pilot tool, drive the seal into the cylinder block until it is flush with the outer surface; if driven in past flush, an oil leak will occur, so check that the seal is indeed flush. The remaining installation steps follow the reverse order of removal.

    Q:
How should you prepare the seal bore and sealing surface on the Crankshaft Seal for the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country? Posted by Customer
    A:
Clean and inspect the seal bore and sealing surface on the crankshaft. Minor imperfections can be removed with emery cloth, but if a groove is worn in the sealing surface, a new seal may not stop the leak.

    Q:
What is the function of the Crankshaft Seal and rear main oil seal for the 2000 Chrysler Cirrus? Posted by Customer
    A:
The crankshaft rear main oil seal is designed to prevent oil leaks from the rear of the engine block, ensuring proper lubrication of the crankshaft.

    A:

    Q:
How should the new Crankshaft Seal be pressed into the housing bore for the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
The new seal should be pressed squarely into the housing bore. If a press is unavailable, you can sandwich the housing and seal between two smooth pieces of wood and use a large vise, or lay the housing on a workbench and drive the seal in with a block of wood and hammer.
