Chrysler Laser Fuse

The Chrysler Laser Fuse guards the hatchback's electronics by cutting power the instant current surges, preventing damage. Housed in a plastic Fuse box on Laser models placed high in the engine bay, it partners with relays that channel battery and alternator energy to the radio, lights, gauges and GPS, shielding them from vibration, heat and moisture. If the box weakens, relays can pop and any linked feature quits, making a Fuse swap essential. Early Chrysler cars relied on single size glass tube units, but by the time the Chrysler Laser arrived the brand had shifted to color coded blade styles, each Fuse variant offered in low profile mini, mini, regular and high capacity maxi formats, every tint matching an amperage so owners pick the correct replacement at a glance. The main difference lies in size and current rating, yet every variant follows the same melt and open principle. With a clip tool, drivers can test with a light, pull the blown piece, slide the new Fuse, restoring Chrysler systems and keeping Laser owners' circuits without fuss.

Chrysler Laser Fuse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What precautions should be taken when dealing with fuses and fusible links in an electrical system on Chrysler Laser?
    A:
Do not bypass a fuse with metal or aluminum foil as serious damage to the electrical system could result. The fuse block is located below the dash, to the left of the steering column and directly above the hood release handle, behind a panel. To expose the fuse block, put your finger in the notch at the bottom of the panel and pull it back sharply. With the ignition off, remove each fuse in turn by grasping it and pulling it from the block. Replace any blown fuse with a new one of the same value by pushing it into place, then install the cover panel. If the fuses are not blown and the headlights or other components are inoperable, check the fusible links located in the wiring harness adjacent to the left suspension strut tower. Before replacing a fusible link, determine the reason it burned out, as replacing it without addressing the cause could lead to serious damage. Determine the proper gauge for the replacement link and obtain the new link or link wire from your dealer. Disconnect the negative battery cable and cut off all remaining burned out fusible links. Strip off one inch of insulation from both ends of the new fusible link and the main harness wire. Install the new fusible link by twisting the ends securely around the main link wire, ensuring that on multiple links, the replacement wire is connected to the main wires beyond the connector insulators of the old link. Solder the wires together with non-acid core solder, and after the connection has cooled, wrap the splice with at least three layers of electrical tape.
