Chrysler Laser Hazard Warning Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Hazard Warning Switch on Chrysler Laser?
    A:
Disconnect the negative cable at the battery and place it out of the way to prevent accidental contact with the negative terminal, which would allow power back into the vehicle's electrical system. Remove the steering wheel and, for 1986 models, the column covers. Take off the wiring trough cover and the lower instrument panel cover from the base of the steering column. Separate the wiring connector and remove the screw retaining the turn signal switch and washer/wiper switch, allowing the latter to hang by the wires. For 1984 and 1986 models, remove the screws holding the turn signal/hazard warning switch and the upper bearing retainer, then lift the assembly from the column; on 1984 and 1985 models, the turn signal switch can be lifted out after removing the upper bearing retainer screws. For 1986 models, remove the retaining screws for the turn signal and hazard flasher warning switch. Carefully pull the wiring harness up through the column and, prior to installation, lubricate the full circumference of the turn signal switch pivot with light grease. Insert the wiring harness through the hub for 1984 and 1986 models and down the steering column for all models. For 1984 and 1986 models, position the switch assembly and bearing retainer, then install the screws; for 1986 models, position the switch assembly and install the retaining screws. With the washer/wiper switch in place, install the turn signal retaining screw, plug in the connector, and install the wiring trough cover. Finally, install the lower instrument panel cover and steering column panel, then the steering wheel, and reconnect the negative battery cable.
