To inspect the throttle body, start by removing the throttle body/air intake plenum cover and ensuring the throttle linkage operates smoothly; if it does not, check the
Accelerator Cable routing. Next, detach the air intake duct from the throttle body and examine the area around and behind the throttle plate for carbon and residue build-up. If dirty, clean it using aerosol carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush, ensuring the cleaner is safe for oxygen sensor systems and catalytic converters. Avoid cleaning the Throttle Position sensor or the Idle Air Control valve with solvent. For removal, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, then remove the throttle body/air intake plenum cover. Loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and air cleaner housing, disconnect the electrical connector from the Intake Air Temperature sensor, and remove the intake duct. Disconnect the accelerator cable and, if equipped, the cruise control cable from the throttle lever and cable bracket. Also, disconnect the EVAP purge hose, the Idle Air Control motor electrical connector, and the Throttle Position sensor electrical connector. Remove the two cable bracket bolts and detach the cable bracket from the throttle body, then unscrew the mounting bolts to remove the throttle body. Take out the throttle body gasket and replace it if necessary. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring the throttle body bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
