Dodge Charger Air Duct
The Dodge Charger Air Duct supplies clean engine air to maintain power and longevity. The Air Duct, placed in between the sealed filter box and mass air flow sensor, creates a tight path to prevent dust, sand, and other debris, which escape the air filter, from entering the combustion chambers. The Air Duct allows the computer to send the proper fuel pulse after the sensor measures every gulp of the roughly 10,000 gallons of air consumed per gallon of fuel. This avoids lean conditions that could scar pistons, rings, and valves. Earlier Dodge Charger designs utilized a simple plastic Air Duct that connected the box to the throttle body. However, later versions of the Charger applied molded contours and enhanced joint designs to avoid cracks. Currently, Charger engines keep modifying and improving the design of sealing surfaces for the same purpose. - Q: How to Remove the Air Intake Duct,Air Filter Box and Air Resonator Box on a Dodge Charger?A:For 2.7L and 3.5L V6 models, disconnect the IAT sensor and loosen the hose clamp screws to remove the air intake Air Duct. Inspect and replace if needed. Disconnect the air intake Air Duct from the air filter box and remove the PCV fresh air inlet hose. Lift the air filter box straight up and inspect the rubber insulators. For the 5.7L V8 engine, remove the engine cover, disconnect the IAT sensor, and remove the air intake Air Duct. Disconnect the air intake Air Duct from the air filter box and remove the PCV fresh air inlet hose. To remove the air resonator box, disconnect the air filter box, remove the retaining bolt, and pull out the locator pins.
