Dodge Colt Heater Core

The Heater Core sits in Dodge Colt automobiles and serves the main purpose of circulating warm air to the interiors of the car, whenever the heater is on. As in the case of a car radiator, the Heater Core uses hot coolant from the engine passing through it and a fan blows on the surface to heat the inside of the car. Usually made of metals such as aluminium or brass, the Heater Core has fins in order to increase its efficiency in heat transfer. It should be noted that during the years of production of Dodge Colt models it is possible to meet differences in the structure of the Heater Core, changes in the regulation of the flow of coolant, for example, using valves or doors. Some cars may use electromechanical actuators for the purpose of temperature regulation so as to provide a more sophisticated comfort and some models may come with an extra climate control. Some of the problems that affect the Heater Core include blockage, rupture and corrosion, these problems make repair cumbersome since the dashboard has to be disassembled. In sum, the Heater Core is very important in regulating the temperatures inside the car to make the ride comfortable for everyone in a Dodge Colt vehicle.

Dodge Colt Heater Core Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Heater Core on Dodge Colt?
    A:
Disconnect the battery negative lead and set the heater temperature control to HOT. Drain the cooling system and then, working inside the car, remove the centre console and the parcels shelf. The now exposed centre ventilator duct and the windscreen demister duct should also be removed, along with the instrument panel trims. Disconnect the control cables from the heater and the heater hoses from the engine. The heater wiring at the multi-pin plug should also be disconnected. Remove the two upper and one lower heater mounting bolts and nut and remove the heater from the car interior. As the heater is withdrawn, make sure that the heater hoses and the bulkhead grommet are drawn through at the same time. Avoid spilling coolant which may be in the heater, on the carpets. If the heater matrix is leaking, it must be removed from the casing and either repaired professionally or a new or reconditioned unit obtained. Refitting is a reversal of removal but adjust the control cables. Refill the cooling system on completion.
