To replace the A/C accumulator in your vehicle's air conditioning system, you will need to follow these steps. First, have the air conditioning system discharged by an automotive air conditioning technician. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, remove the front bumper cover. After that, remove the A/C accumulator mounting fastener. Pull the A/C accumulator directly up and out of the fitting for the condenser, and remove the O-ring seals. Make sure to discard them. Plug all open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering. Install the A/C accumulator into the fitting at the condenser using new O-ring seals. If you are installing a new A/C accumulator, add 1 oz (30 ml) of new refrigerant oil compatible with R-134a refrigerant to the new unit. Finally, take the vehicle back to the shop that discharged it and have the air conditioning system evacuated, charged, and leak tested.
