Dodge Nitro Hood Cable

Dodge Nitro Hood Cable is the connection between the interior release lever and latch assembly, allowing the driver to pop the hood for routine checks. The Hood Cable is a steel wire enclosed in a sheath, which runs from the dash handle to a junction block. From there, it splits towards twin latches. These latches keep the panel clamped against rain and road grit. Early Nitro editions had only one continuous Hood Cable threaded through a Y-fitting. Later versions got one long primary cable that meets shorter secondary cables. That way, owners can change just one cable when only one line wears. A sturdy tug on the Dodge Nitro's Hood Cable makes tension travel down the line, allowing the latch to click free so the panel jumps to its safety catch. Heat, vibration, and moisture can crack the sheath, allowing water to slip in and corrode or stretch the wire, trapping the hood. Checking the Dodge release feel regularly and replacing a tired Hood Cable helps keep every Nitro ready for quick Dodge engine care.

Dodge Nitro Hood Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the Hood Cable and Hood Latch on the Dodge Nitro?
    A:
For models from 2002 to unscrew the Grille, and then to turn out screws from the center vertical latch bracket. A circle should be made around the latch and two nuts must be unscrewed and the cable disconnected and the latch should be pulled off. On the 2003 and on models, the grille support has three fasteners, and on the 2007 and earlier models, the grille support will require removal to reveal the latch assembly. Once more, draw a circle at the latch, unscrew the two nuts, cut the cable, and retire the latch. To access the diagonal of the cable, begin with the removal of the battery and the latch, then the Powertrain Control Module. Then, remove the left side scuff plate and kick panel; then use a screwdriver to loosen the hood release handle and then disconnect the cable by pushing down the two black clips on the cable end. Disconnect the cable at the engine compartment, free the clip on the cable and pass the grommet through the firewall and then pull in the cable from the inside of the vehicle. Reinstallation is done in the reverse manner to guaranty that the cable grommet sits in correctly in the firewall.
