Dodge Nitro Seat Belt

The Dodge Nitro Seat Belt acts to keep the occupants restrained. The Seat Belt system uses polyester webbing attached to a spring-loaded retractor that allows the passengers to move but locks instantly when the deceleration is at its peak. The Seat Belt fits across the chest and across the hips. The deceleration forces that occur in collisions are spread across the torso and pelvis and prevent the passengers from contacting the interior panels of the car or exiting the car. All Nitro models share a similar three-point configuration at the front and rear. This three-point position works to restrain the torso and the pelvis by means of one continuous strap. This is an improvement over the earlier lap-only style found in cars manufactured before 1960. Every Dodge buckle will snick the tongue into the latch so it can be released with a single press, and the Nitro retractor has an inertia sensor that freezes the spool at about 30 milliseconds after collision detection. Throughout the production run, styling packages may have changed, but the base Seat Belt layout, materials, and emergency locking system did not change, meaning that every Dodge driver and passenger received reliable Seat Belt protection in any Nitro year. Having a belt reminder repeatedly in the Dodge reminds passengers and the driver that this strap is their foremost defense.
