Dodge Ramcharger Fuel Pump

The Fuel Pump in Dodge Ramcharger vehicles is some of the important machinery that is charged with the responsibility of pumping fuel from the tank to the engine carburetor or fuel injection system. As far as fuel delivery systems are concerned, the older Dodge Ramcharger models, for instance, employed mechanical fuel pumps for carbureted engines, which are externally mounted and work at comparatively low pressure. On the other hand, fuel injected models use electric fuel pumps that are usually coupled in the fuel tank hence providing higher pressure in supply and efficiency in use. During the years, Dodge Ramcharger has transformed from mechanical pumps with the pressure of up to 15 psi to the electric pumps that create pressure of 40-60 psi and more. This change brings efficiency and safety in its stead since electric pumps are governed by electronic control units for the premier fuel supply. The ability to provide high-flow mechanical and electric fuel pumps make it convenient for the Dodge Ramcharger owners to choose the most suitable system for his or her engine's performance requirements.

Dodge Ramcharger Fuel Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Fuel Pump on Dodge Ramcharger?
    A:
Gasoline is extremely flammable and extra precautions must be taken when working on any part of the fuel system. Do not smoke, or allow open flames or bare light bulbs near the work area. Also, do not work in a garage if a natural gas-type appliance with a pilot light is present. Disconnect the fuel line from the pump and plug the open end of the inlet fitting. Unscrew and remove the mounting nuts and washers and remove the pump. Note the exact number of gaskets used. The same number of new gaskets must be used when installing the pump. Note that on 400/440 cu in engines, there's a pushrod for operating the pump; before the pushrod can be removed, the screw plug must be removed. Reinstall the pushrod before installing the new fuel pump. Place a generous amount of heavy grease on the upper tip of the pushrod to hold it in place during fuel pump installation. A tool will be needed to locate the pushrod at the top of the hole. Installation is the reverse of removal.
