To remove and install the front hub and bearing on a 44-BFD axle, begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands, ensuring all four wheels are off the ground. Next, remove the front wheel and tire, then detach the caliper and hang it out of the way using a piece of wire. Take off the grease cap and drive hub snap-ring, and use Chrysler tool no. C-4170-A to remove the wheel bearing adjusting lock nut. After that, remove the retaining washer and wheel bearing adjusting nut, followed by the hub and brake disc, detaching the outer wheel bearing and retainer spring plate from the hub. Pry out the inner grease seal and remove the inner wheel bearing. Clean the bearings and hub with solvent, using a small brush while ensuring no bristles get stuck in the bearing rollers, and allow the parts to air dry. Inspect the bearings for cracks, wear, and damage, checking the bearing cups for pits and score marks, and replace any worn or damaged components. Also, inspect the brake disc for wear and damage. Lubricate the bearings with wheel bearing grease, ensuring it is worked completely into the bearings. Install the inner and outer bearings in the hub, followed by a new inner grease seal. Use Chrysler tool no. C-4170 to install the adjusting nut, tightening it to 50 ft-lbs to seat the bearings, then loosen and retighten it to 30 to 40 ft-lbs while turning the rotor, and back off the nut 135 to 150 degrees. Position the retaining washer by adjusting the nut until the pin enters the nearest hole in the washer, then install the outer lock nut and tighten it to 50 ft-lbs. Finally, install the spacer, drive hub, and snap-ring, apply RTV sealant to the sealing edge of the grease cap, and install it in the hub, completing the installation in reverse order of removal.
