Jeep Comanche Steering Knuckle

Steering Knuckle of Jeep Comanche is a part which links the wheels with the suspension and the steering mechanism in the front part of the vehicle. Jeep Comanche Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a steering knuckle on a Jeep Comanche?
    A:
This procedure applies to 4WD and 2WD models. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Disconnect the tie-rod from the steering knuckle. Remove the disc brake caliper and disc. Remove the front axle hub and bearing assembly (4WD only) and remove the axle shaft. Remove the cotter pins and loosen the castellated nuts on the balljoint studs. Using a large hammer, tap the steering knuckle at the top to separate it from the balljoint studs. Carefully check the steering knuckle for cracks, especially around the steering arm and spindle mounting area. Check for elongated balljoint stud holes. Replace the steering knuckle if any of these conditions are found. If the steering knuckle is being replaced, unscrew the split ring seat from the lower mount and transfer it to the new knuckle. Also remove the disc anchor plate from the old knuckle. Check the depth of the split ring seat in the knuckle using a depth micrometer or vernier caliper. Screw the split ring seat in or out to attain the proper depth. Position the steering knuckle on the axle housing, inserting the balljoint studs into the holes in the knuckle. Install the nuts and tighten them to the specified torque. Remember to use new cotter pins. Install the axleshaft. Install the front axle hub and bearing assembly. Install the disc anchor plate (if removed previously) and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Then install the brake disc and caliper. Connect the tie-rod to the steering knuckle. Install the wheel and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque.
