The exhaust manifold is removed first of all by unbating the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, lift the vehicle and safely place it on jack stands after which the exhaust pipe manifold connection can be removed, application of penetrating oil to the studs/bolts is recommended and the application should be allowed to sit for about 10 minutes. Lower the vehicle and unbolt the heat shield and also get rid of the heat shield nuts. Subsequently, engage an engine support fixture or an engine hoist to the engine, and then, the use of a socket wrench, remove the through bolts of the
Engine Mount so as to lift the engine sufficiently high to facilitate the removal of the manifold. The nuts and bolts holding the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head needs to be unbolted and then the exhaust manifold or manifolds can be extracted. Removal is done in the reverse of installation all the time when replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets and when cleaning and checking the manifold and head gasket surfaces for cracks, flatness, and others. The exhaust manifold(s) and exhaust manifold gasket(s) and fasteners should be installed and the bolts/nuts tightened to the prescribed torque and sequence securing the center of the exhaust manifold first followed by tightening to the ends and then increasing the torque in three steps. Last, put the heat shields and apply anti seize on the bolts of the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold while tightening them.
