  Q: How to disconnect and replace the front windshield washer pump and washer reservoir on Jeep Patriot?

  Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Properly siphon out or use a suction gun to remove as much fluid as possible from the windshield washer fluid reservoir; if the fluid is still in good condition, it can be reused. Remove the coolant reservoir mounting bolt, disengage the coolant reservoir from the windshield washer reservoir tab, and position the coolant reservoir out of the way, taking care not to spill any coolant. Remove the windshield washer reservoir mounting bolt. It may be easier to first disconnect the pump hose connections from the location nearest the strut tower, ensuring to label the hoses for correct reconnection. Lift the windshield washer reservoir enough to access the connections at the pump, disconnect the pump electrical connector, then label and disconnect the front and rear window fluid hose connections, using a towel or rag to soak up any residual fluid that may spill out. For models with an automatic Headlight leveling motor, remove the headlight housing mounting bolts and slide the housing forward enough to allow clearance for the washer reservoir to pass through. To replace the pump, disconnect the electrical connector and hoses at the pump if not already done, and lift the pump straight up to disconnect it from the reservoir inlet connection, taking care not to damage the reservoir. Remove the rubber seal or filter from the reservoir inlet and discard it, as a new one should be obtained for installation. Installation is the reverse of removal.
