    Q:
How to Remove and Install a Shock Absorber/Coil Spring Assembly on a Dodge Durango? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you take off front wheels, make sure you first loosen their lug nuts, lift the car up, and put jackstands under it to properly support its weight. Before taking off the shock, place a floor jack at one end of the control arm to keep it up, then releasing the fasteners that fix the top end of the shock to the frame. Start by detaching the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm, then remove the fasteners that hold the shock absorber to the lower control arm. Finally, take out the entire shock absorber. Check the shock absorber for fluid leaking and check for dents and cracks, before examining the coil spring for parts that broke off due to damage. Also, look if the spring seats have problems from aging. To keep the vehicle functioning properly, have the suspension components checked by someone who knows about cars. Fix broken or messed-up parts, or buy brand new ones. To install it, follow the steps of removing but handle fasteners as directed. Keep in mind you adjust the lower fasteners when the car sits normally, either by lifting the car itself or lifting the control arm with a stand. Finish by cranking the wheel lug nuts to the correct amount of force.

    Q:
How to Replace Shock Absorbers on a Dodge Durango? Posted by Customer
    A:
Block up your car with jackstands under the frame rails to safely lift its back end. Put a floor jack under the axle tube while working on the side you want to fix, just make sure you don't lift the axle. When fixing Durango models, lower the spare tire because you need to take out the left shock absorber. Use penetrating oil to free up rust on the bolt and nut that hold the top of the shock absorber onto the frame, then unfasten them. Start by spraying penetrating oil onto the nut and bolt holding the shock's lower end to the axle bracket, then remove when the oil has broken the rust. Push the new shock absorber fully out to its maximum length and place rubber washers onto the eye screw ends where you can't see them already there. Last, get the shock absorbers securely fastened to the correct tightening force.
