First of all, if a boot is damaged or leaking, replace it promptly to avoid CV joint damage. Remove the drive axle and disassemble the CV joint to access the CV Boot. Inspect the CV joint for contamination or inadequate lubrication. Clean the old grease from the CV joint and repack it with the kit's grease. Pack the new CV Boot with the remaining grease. For soft rubber CV Boots, slide the smaller end of the boot over the shaft and secure it with clamping straps. For hard plastic CV Boots, slide the boot onto the shaft, align it with the third locating groove, and secure it with a clamp. Install the CV joint and secure the large CV Boot end with a clamp.

To replace a CV Boot, remove the drive axle and disassemble the CV joint. Remove the old boot and inspect the joint. Pack the new boot with lubricant and secure it, aligning it with marks. Also, utilize a special tool to tighten the clamps.

Inspect axle shafts, CV joints and boots periodically, especially when the vehicle is raised. Common signs of failure include knocking or clicking noises when turning. To check, raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Look for cracks, leaks and broken bands on CV boots. Lubricant leaks can cause premature CV joint wear, so replace damaged boots immediately. Check each axle for cracks, dents, twisting and bending. Excessive movement when rotating or moving the axle may indicate worn splines or loose CV joints.
