    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove and install the door handle, door latch assembly, and door lock cylinder on the Chrysler Cirrus? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure applies to both the front and rear doors. To remove the latch, first take off the door trim panel, ensuring that on vehicles with electric windows, the window is closed before disconnecting the electrical connectors. For manual windows, install the window crank without the retaining clip and roll up the window. If removing a rear door latch, also remove the window glass lower rear run channel. Next, disconnect the lock cylinder, lock button, and latch release operating rods from the door latch. For vehicles with power door locks, disconnect the electrical connector from the door lock motor. Remove the three mounting screws from the end of the door and take out the door latch. For installation, position the latch, install the screws, and tighten them securely. Connect the operating rods to the latch and secure with retaining clips, ensuring not to close the door until the latch is properly adjusted to avoid it not reopening. To adjust, insert a hex-wrench through the elongated hole near the latch, engage it in the socket head screw on the door latch linkage, and loosen it a couple of turns. Lift the outside door handle all the way up and then release it, followed by tightening the socket head screw and checking door operation. For the outside handle removal, take off the door trim panel, close the window on electric window vehicles, and for manual windows, roll up the window with the crank. If equipped with the Vehicle Theft Security System, remove the disarming switch from the door handle, disconnect the operating rod, remove the mounting nuts, and withdraw the handle from the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. For the lock cylinder, first remove the outside door handle, detach the operating rod retaining clip and operating rod from the lock cylinder, and if equipped with the Vehicle Theft Security System, remove the illuminated entry switch wiring clip and disconnect the electrical connector. Use a screwdriver to pry the lock cylinder retainer off and withdraw it from the door, with installation being the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to remove and install the door handle, door latch assembly, and door lock cylinder on a Jeep Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the door trim panel and water shield. Remove the door window glass. Remove the access plug in the end of the door. Remove the three door latch retaining screws from the end of the door, disconnect the links, then remove the latch and solenoid. On power door locks, it will be necessary to drill out the rivets retaining the solenoid to the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the door latch retaining screws securely. Disconnect the link from the lock cylinder. Use pliers to slide the retaining clip off and remove the lock cylinder from the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. After installation, check the latch link free play by pressing the door handle release button in. Check that the latch link starts to move after the button moves about 1/64-inch. If necessary, loosen the adjusting screw on the latch, adjust the free play and then retighten it. Remove the retaining nuts, pull the handle out, detach the control rod and remove the handle from the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the retaining nuts securely.
