    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and remove the crankshaft pulley in 3.5L V6 engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery/ Remove the accessory drive belts. Second, take out the cooling fan assembly. Install a large screwdriver through the crankshaft pulley so as to lock it from rotating and then unscrew the bolt connecting the pulley to the crankshaft. They way of removing the crankshaft pulley is by using a three-jaw puller but it should not be placed on the outer ring of the pulley but on the hub. This means a spacer or a long allen head bolt has to be placed in the crank shaft nose for the tapered end of the puller to apply force on in order not to create contact with the crank shaft. To put the crankshaft pulley, the pulley must be slid as far as it could go on the crankshaft, then use the vibration damper installation tool to make it to adhere to the crankshaft. Last but not the least, replace the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt and tighten the same to the factory recommended torque and essentially reverse the procedure followed for the removal.

    Q:
How to remove and install the front Crankshaft Seal and Harmonic Balancer in V8 engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring that on 2015 and later models equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor, the IBS connector is disconnected first. Remove the engine drive belt, drain the coolant, detach the upper radiator hose, and take out the engine cooling fan. Remove the large vibration damper-to-crankshaft bolt, using a chain or strap wrench around the pulley to prevent the crankshaft from turning, and place a piece of rubber under the wrench to protect the vibration damper. It is advisable to place cardboard between the radiator and the vibration damper for protection during removal and installation. Use a proper puller to detach the vibration damper, ensuring it grips the hub only and does not contact the crankshaft threads. If removing the seal while the cover is still attached, carefully pry it out with a seal removal tool, taking care not to damage the area where the seal fits. Clean the bore, position the new seal with the lip facing inward, and apply a small amount of oil to ease installation. Drive the seal into the bore until fully seated, ensuring it bottoms against the cover flange. Check the damper surface for grooves; if present, replace the vibration damper. Lubricate the seal lips with engine oil, reinstall the vibration damper while aligning the Woodruff key, and use a special installation tool to press it onto the crankshaft. Install the vibration damper bolt, and complete the installation in reverse order, followed by refilling the cooling system.

    Q:
How to Remove and Install the Harmonic Balancer in a 3.6L V6 Engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the crankshaft balancer, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring that on 2015 and later models with an Intelligent Battery Sensor, the IBS connector is disconnected first. Next, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the drivebelt, then use a breaker bar, socket, and special tool #10198 or equivalent to loosen and remove the incredibly tight crankshaft balancer bolt while holding the balancer to prevent it from turning. After that, pull the crankshaft balancer off the crankshaft. For installation, apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the seal contact surface of the balancer hub to prevent damage to the seal lip and potential oil leakage. Install the crankshaft balancer by aligning the keyway on the crankshaft with the slot in the balancer, then install and hand-tighten the bolt. Prevent the engine from rotating and tighten the bolt to the specified torque. Finally, reinstall the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.

    Q:
How to disconnect the battery and remove the crankshaft pulley in 2.7L V6 engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the upper radiator crossmember, the cooling fan assembly, and the radiator. Take off the engine splash shield. Remove the drivebelts and position the belt tensioner away from the crankshaft pulley. Use a strap wrench around the crankshaft pulley to hold it while using a breaker bar and socket to remove the crankshaft pulley center bolt; a chain-type wrench may be used if an old drivebelt or rag is wrapped around the crankshaft pulley first. Pull the damper off the crankshaft with a puller, ensuring the puller jaws contact only the hub of the pulley and not the outer ring. A spacer should be placed against the end of the crankshaft nose or a long Allen-head bolt should be inserted into the crankshaft nose for the puller's tapered tip to push against, preventing damage to the crankshaft threads. Check the surface on the pulley hub that the oil seal rides on; if it has been grooved, a press-on sleeve may be available to renew the sealing surface, which can be pressed into place with a hammer and a block of wood. Lubricate the pulley hub with clean engine oil and reinstall the crankshaft pulley using a vibration damper installation tool to press it onto the crankshaft. Install the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt and tighten it to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.

    Q:
How to remove the Crankshaft Seal and Harmonic Balancer on the 5.7L, 6.1L V8, and 6.4L V8 Hemi engine in Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
Taking off the cable, remove it from the negative terminal of the battery. Take off the engine drivebelt and let out the coolant, take off the upper radiator hose and the engine cooling fan. Get out the huge bolt joining the large harmonic balancer to the crankshaft while using a chain wrench round the pulley so that the crankshaft will not turn, and ensure that there is a piece of rubber in between the wrench and the harmonic balancer. With a proper puller remove the harmonic balancer, ensure that outer edge of the puller does not stick on the pulley and the screw of the puller does not touch the threads on the crankshaft nose. If the seal is to be removed and the cover is still fixed on the engine block, this is removed using a seal removal tool or a large screw driver being keen not to harm the area where the seal fits. To install the seal, the bore must be cleaned since it can have old seal material and corrosion, then fit the new seal such that the lip is inside and applying a little oil to the outside of the seal can help in the fitting process. Tighten the seal into the bore with a seal driver or a large socket and hammer until the seal is in a perfect position on the cover flange. Those that have appearances such as grooves on its surface, need the harmonic balancer replacing. Coat the seal lips with engine oil and replace the harmonic balancer keying the Woodruff into the hub and installing the special tool to press it onto splined crank. Put on the harmonic balancer bolt and torque it to the recommended figure. The rest of the installation process is as the removal process in a reverse order until you refill the cooling system.
