42RLE, NAG1, and W5A580 use cable-operated shift level mechanism, while 845RE, 8HP45, 8HP70, and 8HP90 use E-Shifter which informs shift lever position to the transmission through CAN. For a console-mounted shifter, start by disconnecting the battery and removing the centre console as described in the following sections: Put the shift lever in the Park position, then unbolt the shift cable from the shift lever assembly and pull off the cable housing. For 2006 and earlier models, with the ignition in the LOCK position, remove the shift-interlock cable from the assembly cam and notch. Unbolt the electrical connectors, unbolt the shift lever assembly and raise it off the car, to install it the process is vice versa. ECM shifts and detents, adjust shift cable and shift-interlock cable if equipped. For the E-Shifter lever style: set the parking brake-turn off the negative battery terminal; with 2014 and earlier models, remove the shift knob upper cover and its retaining screw. Using a little effort gently remove the shifter bezel and remove its electrical connection. On 2015 and later models there is removal of the shift knob screw that is located beneath the bezel, followed by the removal of the shift knob and the bezel. prise off the center console bezel and then you "unplug the connectors, slide the shift lever assembly up and out of the way." E-Shifter knob style requires the removal of the negative battery cable, removing of the shift knob and the bezel assembly, and disconnecting the electrical connectors, the reverse of which is the process of installation. To fit the dash mounted shifter, one has to partially disassemble the shift lever, the knee bolster, and the knee airbag if it is present. Shack the shift cable from the assembly, pull the cable lock, take off the harness clip, and unscrew the nuts and screw securing the assembly to the bracket. Take it out by pulling the assembly, disconnect the connector and take out the assembly out of the vehicle restoring the procedure followed during the removal and test the shifting and adjust the shift cable if needed.
