Before removing the wheel cylinder the following steps should be taken; With the help of a jack place the rear of the car in the air and support it with jack stands and block the front wheels so that they do not move. Second, in order to inspect the brake shoe assembly, it has to be unbolted and all the dirt and other foreign material should be wiped off from around the wheel cylinder. Back out the fitting nuts enough to release the brake line fitting from the wheel cylinder but do not pull it away from the cylinder, back out the two cylinder mounting bolts. Subsequently remove the wheel cylinder from the brake backing plate, and set it aside on another clean stand, ensure that you plugged the brake line to avoid loss of the fluid and gain of contaminants. The linings of the brake shoe are normally affected by the brake fluid and in this case new brake shoes should be fitted. For assembly the wheel cylinder is placed in the correct position, bolts are then fitted in the wheel cylinder followed by connecting the brake line and torquing the fitting before finally fitting the brake shoe assembly. Last, evacuate the brake fluid and examine the brake system before testing movement of the vehicle in traffic.
