    How to remove and install a Front Cross-Member on Jeep Compass? Posted by Customer

    Loosen the front wheel lug nuts. Apply the parking brake, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Block the rear wheels. Remove the front wheels. Mark all four corners of the subframe to the vehicle to preserve alignment when assembling. Remove the power steering hose fasteners from the subframe. Disconnect the control arms from the steering knuckles. Disconnect the stabilizer bar links from the stabilizer bar. Remove the longitudinal (engine mount) crossmember. Remove the steering gear mounting bolts and the power steering line-to-crossmember bracket bolts. Once the gear is unbolted, tie it up out of the way. Support the crossmember with a floor jack and remove the main crossmember mounting bolts. Slowly lower the crossmember, making sure nothing is still attached. If the subframe is being replaced, separate the control arms once it is on the ground. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten all fasteners to the torque. Have the wheel alignment checked and, if necessary, adjusted.
