    Q:
How to remove and install the Timing Cover and Timing Chain in V8 engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
All 2008 model year prior 5.7 L and all 6.1 L engines have the timing chain mark position from 2009/2010, 5.7L VVT and all 6.4 L VVT but in the opposite. Starting with the removal of the cable, it is correct to start with the negative terminal of the battery and depending on the model and specifically 2015 and later models that come with an IBS, IBS connector needs to be removed. Pull the engine cover(s) by first unscrewing the engine oil cap and drain the cooling system, and the engine oil. Continue with the dismantling of air filter housing and air intake duct and drive belt, and cooling fans to the engine. Loosen the screws which holds the air conditioning compressor to the engine, but do not disconnect the hoses; suspend the air conditioning compressor with ropes or wires beside the engine. After that, take out the alternator and drivebelt tensioner as well as the idler pulleys, and, finally, pull the camshaft position sensor's electrical connector. Remove the vibration damper being careful not to damage the radiator on one side place a piece of cardboard to cover the radiator while several screws are unscrewed on the other side. Disconnect the power steering lines to be able to remove the pump, take out the dipstick tube as well as the oil pan together with the pickup tube. Remove the heater hoses and tube from the front cover, and also the water pump though it is not a requirement for timing cover removal. Remove the timing cover bolts and the front cover; the 2009 and later 5.7L VVT engine models uses five bolts to hold the oil pan to the timing cover. Take out the oil pump assembly, and for 2008 & earlier 5.7L and all 6.1L engines install the bolt back into the crankshaft and rotate until the timing mark lines up. The remaining 5.7L Hemi engines, 5.7 L and later has a similar procedure to the timing mark alignment used for the 2009 and later 5.7L and all 6.4L engines. Pull back the tensioner and secure it with a drill move the camshaft sprocket bolt and take off the timing chain with the sprockets. If the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets have been damaged or worn and if the new timing chain is to be fitted, it is recommended that the whole set is changed in an assembly. Clean the oil pan opening, and sealing surfaces and compress the tensioner and fit the camshaft thrust plate. Place the timing chain and sprockets as per the required position and make sure that the timing mark is lined correctly. Put thread locking compound on the camshaft sprocket bolt and screw it in until tight, then take the chain and rub it with clean engine oil, Twists the tensioner until the drill bit falls out. Secure the oil pump and pick-up tube with adequate fixture arrangement and the timing cover rubber gasket is to be fine or else it has to be replaced. Go to where the timing cover, the engine block, and the oil pan unite and use RTV sealant; fix the timing cover with the aid of the bolts and tighten them. Set the oil pan in place, apply grease on the oil seal contacting area of the vibration damper hub and fit the damper in. Finally, to complete the installation procedure, some of them should be reversed The coolant and engine oil are also added, and the engine run in order to identify the leakage.

    Q:
How to remove and install Timing Chain and Timing Cover in 5.7L,6.1L V8 and 6.4L V8 hemi engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
When un-installation, begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery also drain the cooling system and the engine oil. Then pull off the air filter housing, resonator, and air intake ducts, and then the drivebelt, engine cooling fan and both the upper and the lower radiator hoses. Remove the air conditioning compressor from the belt but no need to remove the hoses, use a rope or wire to tie and move it away from the engine. Proceed with the eliminations of the alternator, coolant reservoir, drivebelt tensioner, idler pulleys, AC and serpentine belt, and vibration damper, power steering pump, dipstick tube, oil pan and pickup tube. Remove the heater hoses from the front cover and the water pump, timing cover screws, and front cover as well. After that, you need to have the crankshaft in the right position when you are checking the oil pump and your timing marks. Pull back the tensioner and lock it, and then take out the bolt and the sprocket, timing chain. Examine the camshaft as well as the crankshaft sprockets and determine whether these are worn out or damaged and if ever the timing chain has to be changed, then the entire set will be required. For installation, clean the oil pan opening and sealing surfaces, the tensioner must be compressed, and the camshaft thrust plate fitted. Fit the timing chain and sprockets in place with the correct orientation and put thread lock on the camshaft sprocket bolt. Oiling of the chain should be done using clean engine oil, the drill bit should be removed from the tensioner and the marks aligned. Place the oil pump and the pickup tube properly with the correct torque in place. In the case of a damaged timing cover gasket, this must be replaced, then use RTV sealant to the gasket area and then fix the timing cover while tightening the bolts evenly. Last of all, add the oil pan, lubricate the vibration damper hub, and do the removal and installation process in a backward manner, and in the last add coolants and engine oil, starts the car to check for leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and install Timing Chain and Timing Cover in 3.6L V6 engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
Some care must be taken as the timing system is intricate, and errors in this process can be costly, and lead to ultimate engine destruction; anyone attempting this should be very experienced; otherwise professional assistance should be sought. Check all work prior to starting the engine, making sure all data are correct and correct. Valves can get damaged during this process, do not rotate the crank shaft or camshafts during this process. A few specific items are required, so as to make sure they are procured in advance. Start with the removal of the negative battery terminal, evacuation of engine coolant and oil, as well as, the removal of other components such as the drive belt, thermostat housing and power steering pump among others. Lastly, when you have ripped the valve covers, watch out for the magnetic timing wheels as these will now be open to the magnet. Continue to the oil pans and provide the engine mount crossmember to be fitted totally temporarily. With caution screw off the timing cover, thus disposing of the old gaskets. Ensure the crankshaft is tonight at TDC and camshaft phaser marks facing each other. Compact the chain tensioners and youre the timing gear splash, oil pump tensioner and sprocket. Camshaft phaser lock tools are then fitted and the oil control valve is also relieved and the timing chains removed. Check timing chain dampener for wear, clean timing chain and other related parts and in case of any damage the timings should be replaced. The method involves turning the crankshaft before starting the engine to find if the engine will resist rotation. Assemble more installation of new chain guides and cleaner gasket surfaces as well as tensioners. Ensure that the marks on the primary chain and sprockets are right before fuelling up the chain. Fit camshaft phasers and oil control valves and it is necessary to align them. Last but not the least, fit the oil pump timing chain into position and make sure all angular notches or marks will meet in the right positions before tightening remaining bolts which screw the cover back into its place, fill the engine with oil and coolant, and start the engine to check if there are still any signs of leaks.
