Jeep 4713055 Exhaust Manifold

First of all, you can remove the right exhaust manifold by disconnecting the negative battery cable, raising the vehicle, and removing the exhaust pipe and air injection hose. Label and disconnect spark plug wires, remove manifold bolts and separate the manifold from the engine. Clean the surfaces before reinstallation. For the left side, disconnect the battery cable, raise the vehicle, and remove the exhaust pipe. Remove accessible manifold bolts, lower the vehicle, and remove the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect hoses and wires, and remove the power steering pump bracket and the remaining manifold bolts. Separate the manifold and heat shield from the engine. Clean surfaces before reinstallation.

Remove the intake manifold and apply penetrating oil to the exhaust manifold studs and bolts. For 1987-1999 models, remove bolts and nuts securing the exhaust pipe to the manifold and detach the pipe. For 2000 and later models, remove the nuts securing the exhaust pipe assembly to the manifolds. Remove the nuts securing the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head and pull the manifold off. Remove old gasket material from the surfaces. If the gasket was blown out, have the manifold checked for warpage. Position a new gasket on the dowels and slide the manifold over the studs. Install the nuts finger tight. Reinstall the intake manifold, tighten fasteners, reconnect the exhaust pipe, and check for leaks.
