    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the oil pan in 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before extracting the engine start with by disconnecting the clamp that is attached to the negative terminal of the battery, and followed by draining the engine oil. With the 3.7L engines, first, you need to take off the engine cooling fan along with the shroud then the intake manifold. If so endued, remove skid plate air cleaner dust cover and cross member if necessary. Place an engine hoist or support fixture at the lifting eyes on the engine; lift the engine sufficiently so that the weight is off the engine mounts then unbolt the through-bolts used in the engine mounts. For both the 4w.D and 4.7L models, owners are advised to pull off the front axle assembly. Subsequently, the oil pan bolts and nuts should be withdraw, with attention made to the stud placements and the oil pan should be secondary separated from the block without employing prying force as it would mar the sealing surfaces. In case the oil pan has stuck it is advisable to give the side of the oil pan a light hit with a rubber mallet until the gasket seal is broken. Disconnect and un-install the oil pump pick-up tube and it's gasket, and along with windage tray the pick-up tube is to be dropped into the oil pan. Before installation, clean the oil block and pan mating surfaces and check that the bolt holes are clear, examine the gasket of the oil pan for signs of wear and tear and replace it if necessary. Insert the pick-up tube and oil pan gasket/windage tray into the oil pan, locate the oil pan over the engine, and always employ a fresh O-ring on the pick-up tube and tighten the pick-up tube - to oil pump bolt successively. Once the fasteners have been installed torque all bolts in a cross wise to the prescribed value. Put and lock the support brace, which is in between the transmission case and oil pan, to the appropriate torque on its bolts. Last, repeat the process of removal, add oil to the engine, install new oil filter and start the engine for some time with making sure that no leakage is observed.

    Q:
How to remove and install the engine oil pan in 5.7L,6.1L V8 and 6.4L V8 hemi engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
To get to the oil pan you need to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, drain the cooling system, lift the car on jackstands, drain the oil for this job the oil filter needs to be removed also. The best time for a mechanic to check engine oil levels is when the engine oil dipstick is removed, a crossmember beneath the oil pan that connects to a brace between the oil pan and the transmission, and the brace itself are absent. After that, remove the engine cooling fan and shroud while the engine is being supported from above by an engine hoist or support fixture and lift the engine slowly in such a manner that the cooling fan does not touch the shroud. On 4-wheel drive models, and after removing the air intake duct, detach the front shock absorber and positioned the front axle to the side by supporting on the floor jacks, and in the same manner on the rear, unbolt the rear 4WD mounts and lower the rear axle assembly. In all models, disconnect and then remove all oil pan bolts, then drop the pan and tap it with a rubber mallet if the gasket has bonded with the pan, then to do this, you have to remove the windage tray from the engine block , reusability of these parts is not allowed. For disassembly, use new gasket, new windage tray, clean the oil pan with solvent and clean up the mounting surfaces for gasket with the old gasket materials. Re-bend any areas you feel may have been pushed out of shape when starting the flange and apply RTV to certain corners of the oil pan flange then fits the one piece gasket using adhesive. Confirm that the alignment studs are correctly positioned, then carefully lift the pan in to position before tightening the bolts just enough so as to properly centre the gasket. Snug down the fasteners in a certain manner, put on the transmission brace, and finish the installation in a manner opposite to its eradication. Last but not the least, put the right kind and amount of oil and a fresh oil filter, then start the engine and look for any sign of leakage before sending the car back to the lots.
