    What are the steps to remove the rear Drive Shaft for the 2001 Jeep Cherokee? Posted by Customer

    Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Place the transmission in Neutral with the parking brake off. Use a scribe, white paint, or a hammer and punch to place marks on the driveshaft and the differential yoke in line with each other. Remove the rear universal joint bolts and straps. Tape the bearing caps to the spider to prevent them from coming off. Lower the rear of the driveshaft and slide the front out of the transmission or transfer case. Wrap a plastic bag over the transmission or transfer case housing to prevent loss of fluid and protect against contamination.
