The airbag general information serves to educate about the technical aspects of the current SRS-and since all car models are equipped with at least two airbags for the driver and the front passenger required to protect the drivers and passengers in frontal collisions. The airbag control module is situated on the inner side of the center console adjacent to the accelerator pedal and on the transmission tunnel below the instrument panel and there may be additional side curtain airbags an optional feature marked with the SRS AIRBAG emblem on the headliner. An airbag module holds both the air bag and the inflater unit; the latter starts almost immediately on receiving an electric signal from the control module passing through a clock spring that enables the signal to pass regardless of the position of the steering wheel. The passenger air bag is located in the centre of the dashboard above the glove box and may be disconnected by the On/Off switch if there is a child in the car on a child seat. Side-torso airbags are usually curtain type airbags that stretch from the A pillar and up to the C pillar, at times side airbags include knee airbag bolsters. ACM controls the airbag and includes its self-check at the moment the car starts; if everything is in order, the lamp blinks for 6 seconds; if there are problems, a DTC is created, and the lamp remains lit until the repair. The ACM also controls the deployment of standard airbags and side-impact supplemental airbags, the latter of which are equipped with their own Side Impact Airbag Control Module mounted in the B pillar. All models have pyrotechnic units in front seat belt retractors by which the tension in seat belts is used during an impact. Air bag System should be turned off before repairing or installing seats and electrical test equipment should not be connected to circuit wires leading to the Air bag system to avoid accidental operations. The SRS components can be fitted and mounted on the vicinity of the steering wheel, the passenger compartment frontal panel, the head lining and front bumper. To deactivate the system, switch off the engine, remove the key, pull the disconnecting terminal on the fob control and wait for two minutes before starting work. For the above system, connect the black probe to the car's negative terminal and switch on the ignition, and confirm that the air bag indicator light blinks.
