Open the hood, disconnect the intelligent Battery Sensor (lBS) connector, then loosen the nut and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the nut and disconnect the cable from the positive battery terminal. Remove the battery cover by pulling it straight up. Remove the battery hold-down clamp. Lift the battery up and out of the engine compartment. If you are replacing the battery, make sure you get one that's identical, with the same dimensions, amperage rating, cold cranking rating, etc. Installation is the reverse of removal. Always connect the positive cable first and the negative cable last.

To disconnect the battery, first disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) electrical connector from the negative cable (if equipped), then loosen the negative battery cable clamp nut, lift the cable off the negative terminal, and secure it aside to prevent accidental reconnection. It is important to note that whenever the battery is disconnected on 2015 and later models, the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) electrical connector must be disconnected prior to disconnecting the negative cable from the battery post.

Precautions include turning off the engine and accessories, disconnecting the negative battery terminal, avoiding sparks, flames, or smoking near the battery, and charging it in a well-ventilated area. Eye protection and gloves are also essential.

The battery is located in the engine compartment, and the battery cables are accessible after opening the hood.

Remove the battery. Remove the four battery tray mounting bolts retaining the tray to the left front frame rail. Remove the battery tray through the wheel opening. Thoroughly wash the battery tray in clean water, then dry it with compressed air. Installation is the reverse of removal.

To install the new battery, simply reverse the removal process.

To clean the battery and remove corrosion from cable clamps and hold-down components, loosen cable clamp bolts, starting with the ground cable. Remove the hold-down clamp bolt and nut. Clean cable clamps with a battery brush and a baking soda solution. Avoid letting the solution enter the battery. Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves, and old clothes during cleaning.

When charging the battery using a one or two-amp battery charger, follow these steps, remove all cell caps and cover the holes. Connect the charger cable clamps to the battery posts. Monitor the battery regularly during charging to prevent overheating. Measure the specific gravity with a hydrometer every hour towards the end of the charging cycle if the battery has removable cell caps. Consider the battery charged when there is no change in specific gravity reading for two hours, and the electrolyte is gassing freely.

Ensure the battery carrier is in good condition and securely tightened.

Before disconnecting the battery, it is important to remove the key from the ignition and keep it with you to prevent it from getting locked inside if the power door locks engage accidentally when the battery is reconnected. Alternatively, memory-saver devices can be used to avoid these problems.

Remove the air filter housing fresh air duct by rotating the retaining clips and taking out the duct. Disconnect the negative battery cable, followed by the positive cable, from the battery. Unscrew the bolt and remove the hold-down clamp from the bottom edge of the battery. Lift out the battery using special battery removal tools available at our website for easier handling. Installation involves connecting the positive cable first, followed by the negative cable. If equipped, transfer the battery insulator to the new battery when replacing.

Remove the battery hold-down clamp and lift out the battery carefully.
