    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove and replace a clutch release bearing on Dodge Dakota? Posted by Customer
    A:
Take off the clutch and release the fork and bearing. If the bearing is noisy or doesn't rotate smoothly, replace it. Inspect the bearing and fork for damage. Apply high-temperature grease to the fork pivot ball, release bearing, and transmission input shaft. Reattach the bearing and fork. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to inspect and replace the hydraulic release bearing on Jeep Wrangler? Posted by Customer
    A:
For models from 1993 and earlier, begin by removing the transmission, then unbolt the insulator plate from the clutch housing and slide it along with the rubber insulator off the lines. Next, take off the pressed metal retaining nut from the hydraulic release bearing's base and slide the release bearing assembly off the transmission input shaft bearing retainer. To inspect, hold the center of the bearing stationary while rotating the outer portion under pressure; if it doesn't turn smoothly or is noisy, replace it. Wipe the bearing clean and check for damage, avoiding immersion in solvent. Check hydraulic release bearings for fluid leakage at the rubber seal; replace the assembly if leakage is found. For installation, reverse the removal steps, ensuring to use a new pressed metal retaining nut. The hydraulic release bearing will be retained in a compressed position by nylon straps that break upon the first clutch pedal depression, so no removal is necessary. For models from 1994 and later, remove the transmission, disconnect the release bearing from the release lever, and slide it off the transmission input shaft. Inspect the release bearing similarly, ensuring it turns smoothly and is free from damage, and check the release fork and pivot for security and integrity. During installation, reverse the removal steps, filling the inner groove of the release bearing with high-temperature grease and applying a light coat to the input shaft splines and the contact face with the pressure plate diaphragm fingers. Lightly lubricate the clutch release bearing where it meets the release lever, then install the transmission and bleed the system.
