About Dodge Ram 1500
Ram is a full-size pickup truck sold under the Ram Trucks brand since 2010. The fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010, and the fourth-generation Dodge Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014. The first-generation Ram trucks and vans, launched in October 1980, featured the Ram emblem on the hood. It was first used on Dodge trucks from 1932 to 1954. Like Ford, Dodge used the badge on 150 one-ton, 250 three- and four-ton, and 350 one-ton trucks. The first-generation Ram was an improved version of the previous-generation Dodge D-Series pickup, launched in 1972. The new model featured larger taillights, dual rectangular headlamps, and squared-off body lines.
In 1998, Dodge introduced a four-door Quad Cab version with a smaller door just behind the front door. It was the first four-door pickup with an extended cab. Other changes for 1998 were new rounded black plastic side mirrors, new plastic folding mirrors, and a new interior. Also standard was an OBD-II system with a computer port in the driver's side step and a code-checking system with a new digital odometer. Heated leather seats were available in 2000 models. The braking system was upgraded with dual-piston front brakes. The Offroad Edition package was offered as a package with stiffer springs upfront. Offroad Edition models also had an Offroad sticker on the trunk below the 4x4 badge. The 2000 model year was shortened, and production was stopped in January 2000 to circumvent CAFE requirements. Subsequently, production of the 2001 model year began.

Chrysler LLC is working to keep the Ram brand competitive in the marketplace for the 2009 model year by introducing several solutions. Later models will have the Rambox system linked to a keyless drive. Beginning in 2011, Ram models were sold with a single manual transmission. General Motors and Ford eliminated manual transmissions on North American models in 2006 and 2010.
