    Q:
How to replace engine mounts in 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine on Dodge Ram 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Because engine mounts are generally unobtrusive, it is very important that damaged or decayed mounts are instantly replaced to avoid further strain on the drive line parts. As a part of inspection, the weight from the mounts must be slightly lifted by raising the engine. To check this; raise the vehicle and support secure it on jackstands then place a wooden block between the jack head and oil pan under the engine oil pan to lift it up slightly. Check for any movement between inner and outer parts of mountings and if there is any movement then lower down engine and tighten mounting fasteners. Secondly, inspect for cracks in rubber from metal casing, hardening of rubber or separation of rubber from metal casing, which all shows that they should be replaced. For replacement: first disconnect battery cable, remove fanshroud attaching bolts to shroud attachement brackets, remove the engine cooling fan, and raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands. The motor will have to be supported from above with an appropriate lifting device taking care not to engage it with manifold intake so as to raise such motor in order to bring about release of mount's weight. Follow these steps depending on whether your model is 2WD or 4WD: Remove engine heat shield (if equipped). Lowering frame bracket free-bolt guide-engine support assembly into position on through bolt plate . Reverse procedure to complete installation .Finally, remove the engine hoist and jackstands, and lower the vehicle.

    Q:
How to check and replace Engine Mount in 3.6L V6 engine on Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The engine mounting system on these models consists of three molded mounts. The front (right and left) mounts support the engine assembly while the rear mount support the transmission and restricts torqueing action of the powertrain. Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately, or the added strain placed on drive line components may cause damage or accelerated wear. During the check, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then position a jack under the engine oil pan. Place a large wood block between the jack head and the oil pan to prevent oil pan damage, then carefully raise the engine just enough to take the weight off the mounts. Check the mounts to see if the rubber is cracked, hardened or separated from the metal backing. Sometimes the rubber will split right down the center. Check for relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame (use a large screwdriver or pry bar to attempt to move the mounts). If movement is noted, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. Rubber preservative may be applied to the mounts to slow deterioration. For replacement of front mounts, the procedure is essentially the same as for the 3.7L V6 and the 4.7L V8 engines.

    Q:
How to check and replace engine mounts in Hemi engine on Ram 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts seldom demand attention. If by any chance they become broken down or deteriorated, these should be replaced immediately in order to prevent damage or wear to the driveline components. To check the mounts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Next, place a jack underneath the engine oil pan and lift up slightly thus removing weight from the mountings. Look at the mount insulators for cracked or hardened rubber or separation from the metal in center. Also, make sure there is no relative sliding between mount and engine or frame. In case of any movement downwards lower it and tighten up mounting fasteners. As a first step in replacement disconnect battery cable and raise vehicle on jackstands. Hold engine then remove through bolts to detach mount from frame bracket and engine for 2WD models. For 4WD models remove skid plate, engine crossmember, and engine oil filter .Use an engine hoist to raise the engine slightly in order to take off weight from under mounts.Remove two front axle assembly bolts that attach it to frame as well as front axle block. This will allow us lower the front axle enough so that we can remove old mount out.Install new mount correctly positioned with regard to other parts of automobile then lastly secure it tightly.
