Mopar 4854137 Accelerator Cable

The Throttle Cable (TV) linkage or cable can be adjusted to correct harsh, delayed, or erratic shifting and lack of kick down. Begin by removing the TV control rod spring and using it to hold the adjusting link against the nylon stop in the forward position. Block the choke open and set the throttle off the fast idle cam. For models with a throttle-operated solenoid valve, turn the ignition switch on to energize the solenoid, then open the throttle halfway to lock it before returning it to the idle position. Raise the vehicle and support it securely with jackstands. Loosen the retainer and clamp bolts on the TV linkage adjusting link. Use a spare spring to hold the transmission TV lever all the way forward against the stop, hooking the spring to the bell housing boss. Push on the end of the link to eliminate any lash, pull the clamp to the rear until the bolt bottoms in the rear of the rod slot, and tighten the clamp bolt. Pull the TV control rod to the rear until the rod bolt bottoms in the front rod slot and tighten the retainer bolt. Install the TV control rod spring, remove the extra spring from the transmission lever, and lower the vehicle. With the ignition switch in the Off position, retract the cable adjuster by depressing the button and pushing the conduit in. Rotate the throttle lever on the throttle body to the wide-open position, hold it open, and allow the cable conduit to extend fully, which automatically adjusts the cable. Once the conduit is fully extended, release the adjuster button. Finally, depress the accelerator pedal to the floor and have an assistant check that the throttle lever on the throttle body moves to the full-throttle position without binding.

2007 and later models do not have an accelerator cable- the throttle body is controlled electronically by the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor. To remove the cable, start by prying the cable end from the throttle valve pivoting ball using a small screwdriver. Then, depress the cable-to-bracket fitting with a pair of pliers and pull the cable through the bracket. Inside the driver's compartment, depress the throttle pedal and remove the cable stop through the larger opening. Finally, remove the cable from the engine compartment by squeezing the tang with a pair of pliers and pushing the retainer through the opening. Installation is the reverse of removal.
