To remove and install the coils, remove the air intake duct and resonator box for the 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engines. For the HEMI engine, remove the air intake duct and resonator box for cylinders 2, 4, 6, and/or 8. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the coil mounting bolts, and carefully pull the coil up to disengage the rubber spark plug boots. Inspect the condition of the rubber spark plug boots and replace if necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal.

For 2.4L four-cylinder engines, start by removing the ignition coil unit. Clean the outer case and check for any damage or cracks. Clean the coil primary terminals and remove any corrosion with a wire brush. Next, check the coil primary resistance by connecting the ohmmeter leads to the outer terminals and the center terminal. Repeat this step for each coil. Then, check the coil secondary resistance by connecting one ohmmeter lead to the no. 1 terminal and the other lead to the no. 4 terminal. Repeat this step for each coil. Compare the measurements to the specified resistance values and replace the ignition coil unit if necessary. To replace the coil, remove the air filter housing and outlet hose. Mark the spark plug wires for proper firing order and remove them from the ignition coil. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the coil pack mounting bolts. Finally, remove the coil from the engine compartment and install the new coil in reverse order. For 3.7L V6 engines, start by removing the ignition coil(s). Clean the outer case and check for any damage or cracks. Clean the coil primary terminals and remove any corrosion with a wire brush. Next, check the coil primary resistance by connecting the ohmmeter leads to the two primary coil terminals. Repeat this step for each coil. Then, check the coil secondary resistance by connecting one ohmmeter lead to a coil primary terminal and the other lead to the spark plug terminal. Repeat this step for each coil. Compare the measurements to the specified resistance values and replace the ignition coil(s) if necessary. To replace the coil, remove the air inlet duct/resonator if necessary. Disconnect the electrical connector and clean the area surrounding the ignition coil(s) with compressed air. Remove the nut from the ignition coil mounting stud and carefully pull the coil up with a twisting motion. Finally, remove the coil from the engine compartment and install the new coil in reverse order.

Start by removing the ignition coil and cleaning the outer case for any damage. Clean the coil primary terminals and check for corrosion on the coil tower terminal, cleaning it with a wire brush if necessary. Use an ohmmeter to measure the coil primary resistance by attaching the leads to the two terminals of the connector. Compare the measured resistance to the specified range and replace the ignition coil if it falls outside the range. To check the coil secondary resistance, connect one ohmmeter lead to the positive terminal of the connector and the other lead to the high-tension terminal. Compare the measured resistance to the specified range and replace the ignition coil if necessary. If the primary and secondary resistance values are within specification but the coil is still misfiring or causing trouble codes, try swapping it with an adjacent coil. If the issue persists, consult a professional for further testing.
