Remove the distributor and carefully clamp it in a vise equipped with soft jaws, avoiding excessive pressure. Using two screwdrivers no more than 4 inches wide, pry up the reluctor, taking care not to damage the reluctor teeth. If equipped, remove the two mounting screws from the vacuum advance unit, disconnect the control arm from the pickup plate assembly, and take out the vacuum unit. Detach the pickup coil leads from the distributor housing and remove the two mounting screws from the pickup plate. Lift out the pickup coil and plate as an assembly without completely removing it, then depress the retainer clip on the underside of the plate assembly to detach it from the distributor, noting that the pickup coil and plate are replaced as an assembly and are not separable. For installation, reverse the removal process, ensuring to apply a small amount of distributor cam lubricant on the plate support pins before installing the plate assembly, and set the air gap.
