- A:Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Spray the nuts and bolts at the flange(s) and the clamp bolt and nut behind the converter with penetrating oil and wait the specified amount of time for the penetrant to loosen things up. Remove the oxygen sensor from the converter. Remove the rear portion of the exhaust system. Remove the flange nuts at the exhaust manifold and detach the converter from the exhaust manifold. Before installing the converter, coat the threads of the exhaust manifold flange nuts and bolts, and the clamp bolt with anti-seize compound. Tighten the fasteners securely.
