To unlock the side latch mechanisms, it is necessary to unbolt and disengage the latch assembly, and tighten the cable end using a screwdriver. To gain access to the cable-latch connection, the latch can be pulled out or the push-in fasteners, which are rather small, can be removed with a small screwdriver in order to remove the black plastic latch cover. Inside the passenger compartment, take out the screws to loose the hood release cable and handle assembly; under the dashboard, there is a cable grommet which has to be removed from the firewall. Then, take a string or wire and fasten it to the engine part of the end of the cable, unscrew the end, and cable guide to the fire wall surface and pull it into the passenger part of the car. Secure the string or the wire to the new cable that must be pulled through the firewall to the engine compartment to finish the process of installation that can be done by reversing the above mentioned removal procedures.
