Q:
Where is the ECT Sensor Located on Dodge Dakota? Posted by Customer
A:
The ECT sensor for the 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engines is located at the front of the intake manifold. To remove the sensor, disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew it using a deep socket. Before installing the sensor, wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape to prevent leaks. The installation process is the reverse of removal, and be sure to tighten the sensor to the specified torque. For the HEMI engine, the ECT sensor is located at the front of the engine block, under the air conditioning compressor. To access the sensor, remove the drivebelt and unbolt the compressor without disconnecting any hoses. Disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the sensor using a deep socket. Again, wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape before installation. The rest of the installation process is the reverse of removal. After completing the process, refill the cooling system.

Q:
What is the Coolant Temperature Indicator System and Coolant Temperature Sensor on Dodge Neon? Posted by Customer
A:
The coolant temperature indicator system includes a warning light or a temperature gauge on the dash and a coolant temperature sending unit on the engine. In the models discussed, the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor acts as an informational sensor for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and doubles as the coolant temperature sending unit. If there's an indication of overheating, first verify the coolant level and ensure all connectors between the sending unit and the indicator are secure. When the ignition switch is turned to START, the indicator light should illuminate, signifying the bulb is functional. If the light doesn't activate, the bulb could be defective, the ignition switch might have issues, or there could be a circuit malfunction. After the engine starts, the light should extinguish unless there's overheating. If it remains on, potential problems include a grounded wire between the sending unit and the light, a malfunctioning sending unit, or a problematic ignition switch. It's essential to ensure the coolant mixture is correct, as an improper mix can lead to incorrect boiling points and faulty sending unit activations. Replacement procedures are available in the respective guide.
