Q: Where is the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Located on Dodge Nitro?
A: The engine coolant temperature sensor is a thermistor mounted into an engine water jacket. The change in resistance values directly affects the voltage signal from the sensor to the PCM. As the sensor temperature increases, resistance values decrease, and as the sensor temperature decreases, resistance values increase. On 2.4L four-cylinder engines, the sensor is located on the left side of the front of the cylinder head. On 3.7L V6 engines, the sensor is located on the front of the intake manifold, behind the alternator. To replace the sensor, partially drain the cooling system, disconnect the electrical connector, and unscrew the sensor. Before installing the new sensor, wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape to prevent leakage and thread corrosion. Installation is the reverse of removal. Finally, refill the cooling system.
