Mopar 52104591AB Axle Shaft Assembly Replaces

Loosen the wheel lug nuts, then raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands before removing the wheel, brake calipers, and discs. Tap the axle end plug sideways with a hammer and punch, then remove the plug with a pair of pliers. Remove the ABS wheel speed sensor from the axle tube flange and the axle flange nuts. Pull the axleshaft and hub and bearing assembly from the axle tube and remove the oil seal. If the axle flange/hub and bearing assembly sticks in the axle tube, use a slide hammer and flange puller attachment to free it. If a new hub and bearing assembly or axleshaft is to be installed, drive the axleshaft from the hub and bearing assembly using a hammer and large drift. Tap the axle into the hub splines, then install a new O-ring onto the shoulder of the hub and bearing assembly, lubricating the O-ring with clean gear oil. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the axle flange nuts to the specified torque. Clean off all traces of old gasket material from the differential cover and axle housing, then apply a bead of RTV sealant to the cover before installing it and tightening the bolts to the specified torque. Refill the axle with the correct quantity and grade of lubricant, and finally, tighten the wheel lug nuts to the specified torque.
