    Q:
How to replace the ignition switch on Jeep Wrangler? Posted by Customer
    A:
As a general rule for all the models that are within the years 1987 to 1995, the typical procedure is to begin by removing the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. The switch is mounted on the steering column and get engaged by a rod which is connected to the key lock cylinder. Take off the switch and using both an ohmmeter or self-powered test light, refer to the accompanying illustration and check chart to check for continuity between any two terminals of the switch; if continuity is improper switch should be replaced. To replace, again, unplug the connector from the negative terminal of the battery, insert the ignition key into the lock cylinder, turn it to the Off-Lock position, and if it's equipped, remove the intermittent wiper module. Disconnect an electrical connector, unbolt the switch in relation to its configuration from the actuator rod, and bring it down off the steering column. It is the reverse of removal, whereby the switch slider has to be set to the Accessory position with certain adjustments depending on the type of steering column. For the models of the 1997 year through 2000, the ignition key lock cylinder, the lower steering column cover screws, and the cover have to be removed. Two electrical connectors can be pulled out of the ignition switch, the screw that holds the switch has to be unscrewed and with the help of a small screwdriver, the locking tab has to be pressed in and the ignition switch can be removed from the steering column. Installation is the reverse, the slot in the switch should be rotated to the 'ON' position before it is installed. For models from year 2001 and above, the ignition key lock cylinder comes off together with the multi-function switch, disconnected from the switch wiring: the switch is secured by a tamper-proof Torx screw. Pop out the switch from the lock tabs in upright direction, rotate it to the On position if you are installing it and follow the process in the same reverse manner.
