About every six months, inspect the flexible hoses that connect the steel brake lines with the front and rear brake assemblies for cracks, chafing, leaks, blisters, and other damage. Use a light and mirror for a thorough check. If any hose exhibits these conditions, replace it with a new one. For 2007 and earlier Liberty models, to replace the front brake hose, disconnect the brake line from the hose fitting in the engine compartment, raise the front of the vehicle, remove the banjo bolt from the brake caliper, remove the bolt that attaches the hose to the vehicle, and install the new hose by attaching it to the caliper and connecting the brake line. For the rear brake hose, raise the vehicle, disconnect the steel brake line from the hose, unbolt the hose bracket from the body, disconnect the vent tube from the hose end, disconnect the steel brake lines from the hose end, unbolt the hose from the rear axle housing, and install the new hose by connecting the steel brake lines and securing it to the rear axle housing. When replacing metal brake lines, use the correct parts and ensure they are securely supported and have clearance. After installation, check the master cylinder fluid level, bleed the system, and test the brakes before driving. For 2008 and later Liberty models and all Nitro models, to replace the left front brake hose/line, disconnect the left front brake line from the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit, raise the front of the vehicle, detach the ABS wheel speed sensor harness from the brake hose, unscrew the brake hose banjo bolt, and guide the brake line/hose out from the fender well. Repeat similar steps for the right front brake hose/line, left rear brake hose/line, and right rear brake hose/line. Bleed the hydraulic system after installation.
