The EGR system is designed to reduce the production of toxic gases by introducing exhaust gases into the intake manifold. The system consists of the EGR valve, EGR tube, electronic EGR transducer, and connecting hoses. On 2.4L four-cylinder models, the EGR valve/transducer assembly is located at the left rear corner of the cylinder head, while on 3.3L/3.8L V6 models, it is located at the right front corner of the engine. To replace the components on the 2.4L models, disconnect the electrical connector from the EGR valve solenoid, vacuum hose, and back pressure hose. Remove the EGR valve solenoid/transducer assembly, EGR valve tube, and EGR valve. For the 3.3L/3.8L V6 models, remove the EGR tube by detaching it from the intake manifold and EGR valve. Disconnect the electrical connector from the transducer and remove the EGR tube and valve/transducer assembly. Install the new components in reverse order, ensuring proper tightening and use of new gaskets.

To check the EGR valve operation, bring the engine to operating temperature, disconnect the hose from the transducer, connect a vacuum pump, start the engine, and apply ten inches of vacuum. The EGR valve stem should move and stay open if the system is working correctly.
