  Q: How to Remove and Install an Alternator?

  A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the air intake duct. Remove the Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system purge solenoid from its mounting bracket and set it aside. Disconnect the field wire electrical connector from the alternator. Remove the nut that secures the B+ wire terminal to the stud on the back of the alternator and disconnect the field wire from the stud. Remove the alternator drivebelt. Remove the alternator adjustment bolt and pivot bolt and remove the alternator. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the alternator bolts securely. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the nut that secures the B+ wire terminal to the stud on the back of the alternator and disconnect the field wire from the stud. Disconnect the field wire electrical connector from the alternator. Raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front lower splash shield. Remove the alternator drivebelt. Remove the lower oil dipstick tube retaining bolt. Detach the wiring harness from the oil dipstick tube. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt and remove the two mounting bolts from the drivebelt side of the alternator. Lower the vehicle. Remove the dipstick tube. Remove the alternator. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the alternator bolts securely.
