In the seat belts, use should be made of visual inspection at regular intervals for signs of wear such as fraying or damage; for fraying or damage, it is advisable to replace the belt and never attempt a repair. The body of work to be done on a seat belt that has dirt comprises wiping it with a damp cloth which has some little drops of household detergent in it. This is prudent if the car has ever been involved in a front-end collision while the belts were operational because the belts and the reel mechanism are almost definitely strained in this event and the replacement of the belts is advised with complete new assemblies. Also, take time to check the torque of the mounting bolts and should never change, the relative positions of the anchorage components, the washers and spacers.
