How to replace the A/C compressor on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The accumulator should be replaced whenever the compressor is replaced. Start by having the air conditioning system discharged by an automotive air conditioning technician. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the air intake duct resonator. Disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector and remove the drive belt. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor, plug the open fittings to prevent entry of dirt and moisture, and discard the O-ring seals. On Hemi engines 2010 and earlier, remove the power steering pump. Unbolt the compressor from the mounting brackets and lift it out of the vehicle. If a new compressor is being installed, follow the directions with the compressor regarding the draining of excess oil prior to installation. Any replacement compressor used must be compatible with refrigerant R-134a. The clutch may have to be transferred from the original to the new compressor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace all O-rings with new ones specifically made for air conditioning system use and compatible with refrigerant R-134a. Lubricate them with refrigerant oil. Any refrigerant oil added must also be compatible with refrigerant R-134a. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested by the shop that discharged it.
